Each day the Carver Center prepares and delivers a hot, homemade meal for each of the 1,300 children enrolled in its After School Program. In some cases, it’s the only hot meal a child will have that day. It truly is Love on a Plate.Delivering love on a plate begins with monthly planning by Chef Gustavo.Chef and his small crew work each day to plan menus, order fresh produce, hand cut ingredients, and cook in healthy ways.Hand cutting all the fresh vegetables, fruit, and protein.Their cooking is no different than what every family hopes to achieve in their kitchen every day.Except, of course, for the volume.Once the meals are prepared, they’re boxed and delivered while still hot.Mikey, a self-described “Carver kid”, and his team deliver meals to XX schools and preschools in Port Chester.Sharing a meal and talking about the day is fun!Like any meal, a nutritional break is a good time to relax and socialize. For preschoolers at Carver, meals are served family style, but only after the children help set the table.Meals are served at school and provide a welcome break for kids as they make the transition from school to after school.A meal made with care is more than food, it’s love on a plate.
